Crews will deliver and/or install sod on your scheduled day(s) depending on the quantity you need. The area needs to be fully prepped prior to the crew arrival. We perform all cuts and clean up. Someone must be present to begin water immediately after install. Sod should always be the very last project that you do – no foot traffic for 2-3 weeks.
What Does Fully Prepped Mean?
Prepped is a common term in the sod industry. It refers to the area being conditioned before the sod is laid on it. The sod must be laid on JUST DIRT – any roots, existing grass, rocks, etc. will inhibit the new sod from rooting. Either new screened topsoil is spread over the area (usually 3″ minimum) or the existing soil is tilled to a 4-6″ depth. You cannot just mow your old grass down, or spray it with roundup. Then the area is raked level and flattened. Laying sod is like installing carpet over a wood floor, you need a level base for best results.
Lead Time: How Long To Schedule?
We are typically a week out on sod install orders, dependent on weather and truck routes. We try our best to work with customer requests for specific days, though we cannot guarantee that weather will cooperate.
How Do I Know How Many Square Feet I Need?
Minimum square footage for delivery only is 600 sqft and the minimum for installation is 2500 sqft. Square footage is simply length times width. A measuring wheel is best for accurate results. Please triple check your measures – the crew will only bring as much as you order. All quotes are based on square footage – you will be charged for the amount of sod that is used during your install – whether it is more or less than originally ordered.

What Do I Do Once It’s Installed?
The new sod must be watered immediately, within 30 minutes of installation. Water is the most important thing that new sod needs, 90% of sod failure is due to lack of water. No foot traffic for 2-3 weeks while new roots are adhering to the soil. Mowing can resume after 2-3 weeks, set blade to highest setting and slowly lower with each mow.
How Much Does Sod Installation Cost?
All sod installs are different. We provide custom quotes based on the quantity and location/access. All coordination is done over the phone with one of our staff. We do not typically do site visits prior to install day. Clients often send pictures via email or text to show access sites, areas and ensure the prep work is sufficient.
